MISS SL ♛ Canada~Sydney Ashbourne‘s inspiration is the character Harlequin, who was most well known of the zanni or comic servant characters from the Italian Commedia dell’arte. Harlequin is characterized by his chequered costume. His role is that of a light-hearted, nimble and astute servant, often acting to thwart the plans of his master, and pursuing his own love interest, Colombina, with wit and resourcefulness, often competing with the sterner and melancholic Pierrot.

She also has selected the wind-up marionette as part of her theatrical display.

In the 18th century, operas were specifically composed for marionettes. Lewis Carroll composed marionette operas and plays for his siblings’ entertainment. Today in Salzburg in Austria, the Salzburg Marionette Theatre still continues the tradition of presenting full length opera using marionettes in their own purpose built theater.

The wind up key in the back is a symbol indicating that we should never give up on our hopes and dreams and feel as if we are winding down.
